Join us for a day of fun and discovery on Thursday, May 9, 2024, as the senior adults of the First Lutheran Church embark on a scenic tour of Spillville and Decorah, Iowa.

Itinerary

Our journey begins at 7 a.m. at Sam’s Club parking lot behind Burger King on Blairs Ferry Rd NE. We depart Cedar Rapids at 7:30 a.m., we will make a rest-stop along the way, then arrive around 10:00 a.m., at our first destination: the Bily Clocks & Antonin Dvorak Museum in Spillville, IA.
Here, we’ll spend an hour admiring the intricate craftsmanship of the Bily brothers’ hand-carved clocks and learning about the life and works of composer Antonin Dvorak.

Next, we depart for Decorah at 11:00 a.m., where a delicious meal awaits us at the Luther College Cafeteria at 11:30 a.m. After lunch, we’ll take a brief tour of the Luther College campus to see its highlights. After that we  will head for the Vesterheim Norwegian Museum. We’ll spend two hours exploring the museum’s extensive collection of Norwegian-American artifacts. Our return journey begins at 3:30 p.m., with a brief stop at the smallest church in the world in rural Festina, IA. We expect to return to Cedar Rapids around 6:30 p.m.
