Joy! Deep, abiding joy in God and being God's child-that's what this psalm is about. Do you think of joy when you think about being a Christian?
The psalm uses joy to describe our response to God’s glory and love. How do you perceive God's awesome deeds and great power? Do you know the joy of answered prayer? Have you ever felt joy to see Christ's presence in someone? Do you respond with joy when you sense that the Spirit is at work?
Carry a 3x5 card in your pocket, or something to record the day. As you go through the day, look for signs of joy – outside you and inside you. Every time you think you may be seeing something that reflects God, write it down. At the end of the day, look over your card and consider all the places that the joy of God showed up!
In the comments section below, share something of your experience of joy in and through First Lutheran Church. How has FLC been a community of joy for you? How does the joy of God show up?
Beloved God, I want to praise you. I want to sing the glory of your name. But I know I don't see you clearly enough. Please give me glimpses of your mighty deeds, your power, your glory, your mysterious presence in my life today. Let me be a little more conscious of you in my daily life. Thank you. Amen.
