This Weekend in Worship
Preaching: Pastor Steve Knudson
Sermon: "Worshiping God"
Leading into our discussions starting next weekend about the renovation of our worship space, we will look at how a worship space can shape how we experience the triune God.
What happens in worship? Our first response is to say--we sing, we pray, we read the Bible, we hear a sermon, we do communion. The follow-up question is — what does God do in worship? When we come, what do we expect God to do?
The essential answer is: God forgives. God shows us God's grace and mercy.
We might add: God speaks to us in scripture and in God's word of grace. God gathers us at the table, and feeds us with the bread of life. God sends us out into the world to serve in Christ's name. God is the host, and we are the guests. God acts, and we receive in faith. The essential actions of worship are shaped by God: God gathers us, God speaks God's Word of Law and Gospel, God serves a meal, God sends us out.
Scripture Readings: Romans 8:12-17; John 3:1-17 NRSV
