Wear Red for Pentecost!
Preaching:
Pastor Craig Brown

Sermon: "God’s Mission of Encouragement"
Jesus describes the gift of the Holy Spirit the presence of God as Advocate, Counselor, Encourager. The gift of the Spirit transforms the first disciples and emboldens them to tell the story of Jesus, his life, death and resurrection. All that the church is, all that the disciples bear witness to, all the acts of faith, hope, and love are a reflection of the Spirit's encouraging work. The church is nothing without the spirit. Everything comes as a result of the Spirit who not only bestows spiritual gifts, but also provides the spiritual encouragement for the gifts to be expressed and bear fruit in the world.

Scriptures: Acts 2:1-21; John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15 NRSV

Special Music: 9a: Resonaré Bells; 11:15: Adult Choir
Special Presentation: Liturgical Dance for Pentecost by Tallis Strub at 9 & 11:15 a.m.

ELCA Statement on Women and Justice
Dr. Kristin Wendland from Wartburg Seminary will guide our discussion and seek our input around the ELCA’s Women and Justice Statement.

What is the ELCA Social Statement on Women and Justice?
Responding to the call received from the 2009 Churchwide Assembly, a task force was assembled to lead the process of social statement formation. The task force is composed of 19 diverse ELCA members. The draft social statement examines issues of equality and justice as they relate to gender, patriarchy and sexism, among other issues. The complete text of the statement, their thesis, analysis and convictions is a 76-page .pdf document. It can be found online at www.elca.org/womenandjustice. For a free complimentary copy, please call 800-638-3522.
ELCA social statements are teaching and policy documents that provide broad frameworks to assist in the discernment of social issues in the context of faith and life.
