This Weekend in Worship
Preaching: Pastor Craig Brown
Sermon: "Summer with the Saints - Jan Hus"
In 1402, nearly 100 years before Luther, Jan Hus began preaching inside the city demanding for the reformation of the Roman Catholic Church denouncing the moral failings of clergy, bishops, and even the papacy. Hus believed in unmediated grace, that man obtains forgiveness of sins by true repentance, not money. Historians say his appeal to Jesus Christ as the supreme judge during the Bohemian Reformation, bypassing the laws and structures of the medieval Church, was as significant as the 95 theses nailed to the door of the Wittenberg church by Luther in 1517.
Scriptures: Psalm 136:1-4, 23-26; John 14:1-7 NRSV
