July 14-15, 2018

7/13/2018

This Weekend in Worship

Preaching: Pastor Craig Brown
Sermon: "Letting God Take the Wheel"
All of us want to be in control of our own destiny, captain of our own ship, plotting our own coarse. But God implores us if we truly want to be his followers we must let him take the reigns. In exchange, he encourages us to take his yoke, which is easy and light, so we might learn from him and find rest for our souls.

Scripture Readings: Psalm 23; Matthew 11:28-30 NRSV

Communion Round-Table Discussion After Worship

How do you like to take communion?

What is important about the practice of communion to you?  Join us for a round-table discussion about the use of altar rails and kneeling in the proposed new sanctuary design options.

We’ll gather for three identical sessions at 6 p.m. Sat. July 14 in the Chapel, or at  10:15 a.m. or 12:15 p.m. Sunday, July 15 in the Luther Fellowship Center.

The goal of the discussion will be to develop a shared and solid framework by the congregation to inform the building committee for chancel design.

Summer Family Faith Connections

Our Sunday Morning Children's Learning has wrapped up for the school year; we'll see you in September!

Starting in June you can stay connected to church and explore new, fun ways to grow your faith! Stop by the Welcome Desk any weekend, and check out one of the MANY Family Faith Kits we’ll have available for you to either check out, or take home to keep! Options include:

  • 567 Ministries placemats: using Old and New Testament stories, paired with beautiful, original artwork, you can foster meaningful faith conversations at mealtime.

  • Movies With A Twist: did you know that there are great resources available to you that can spark faith conversations around your child’s favorite animated films? It’s true! Check out any one of the 17 kits we have, which include titles like Frozen, Rio, Planes Fire and Rescue, The Lego Movie and more!

  • Family Faith Jar: an easy way to jumpstart family faith discussions at home, Family Faith Jars have 48 practices that can be rotated through daily, weekly, or sporadically! Pick up this kit, have fun cutting them out together, decorate your jar together, and start a conversation! This is a kit you can KEEP!

  • Weekly Worship Kit: each week, we’ll have a kit of a few crafts or activities you can take home to connect what you’ve heard in worship, to your faith practices at home. Think Discovery Cove activities in your own home, or in the car on a road trip, or as a ‘boredom buster’! This is also a kit you can KEEP!

Kits will be available beginning in June, and while we know it will be super tempting to take them ALL home the first week, we suggest starting with ONE of the kits, and trying a new one each week. You’ll never be short of ways to keep connected to God this summer!
