January 27-28, 2018

1/26/2018

Prayer Shawl Gathering This Saturday! –
After giving out prayer shawls in worship last weekend, it's time to make more to restock our supply!  we are going to have a prayer shawl creation gathering this Saturday, January 27, 9 to 11 a.m. here at the church. Thanks to a Thrivent Financial Action Team grant, we will have a fresh stock of yarns you can choose from to make the shawls! Even if you don't know how to knit, they'll help you get started; and if you've been doing this a long time, come enjoy the fellowship! Yummy snacks will be provided too! For details, contact Marla Thompson at 395-0646, or read more on our Prayer Ministry Page.

This Weekend in Worship

This is a Baptism Weekend here at First Lutheran and we are celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at both our 9 and 11:15 a.m. worship services.

We are also saying goodbye this weekend to staff member Lindsey Scheibe, who has served a number of roles with us over the past ten years. There will be a special sending liturgy at both the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services, as well as a Godspeed Reception between worship times.

Preaching: Pastor Craig Brown
Sermon:
"Back to the Future: the Power of the Prophets"
In Deuteronomy God promises to raise up a prophet like Moses, who will speak for God.  For the church these are ways of pointing to the unique authority people sensed in Jesus’ actions and words. We encounter that authority in God’s word, around which we gather, the word that triumphs over any lesser spirit that would claim power over us, freeing us to follow Jesus.

Scriptures: Deuteronomy 18:15-20; Mark 1:21-28 NRSV

Special Music: 5p: Cherub Choir; 9a: Adult Choir
