December 15 & 16, 2018

12/14/2018

This Weekend in Worship:

 Preaching: Pastor Steve Knudson
Sermon: Stirred to Joy
The horizon of Advent looks to the future of God's coming reign. We look to the coming celebration of Christmas, and we anticipate that God's reign of peace will be established. The prayers of Advent also have a now focus, and how the Spirit stirs our hearts to pay attention to God's work now.
The message of the Gospel is one of Joy, and the joy of God leads faith into acts of love and service.
Scriptures: Zephaniah 3:14-20; Philippians 4:4-7; Luke 3:7-18 NRSV
Special Music: 9 a.m. – Rhapsody Ringers, Resonaré Bells and Adult Choir

10:15 a.m. Sunday Morning Learning:

Big Brothers Big Sisters, LFC – The Program Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cedar Rapids and East Central Iowa will update us on partner opportunities with First Lutheran. In the past we’ve partnered with them in an elementary school lunch mentoring program, community matches, and Bowling for Kids’ Sake.

Prayer Chapel Available – Take a quiet moment to yourself this morning and head into the Chapel for a time of prayer. Kneelers and chairs are available, there are candles on the altar you can light, and the labyrinth is set out for walking if you desire.

Advent Devotional Study – Intern Michelle will also lead a conversation each Sunday morning during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday Morning Learning time, and Wednesdays after the evening service.

10:15 a.m. Children's Learning:

Caroling Service Day!
Make sure to bring a warm coat, hat, mittens and wear clothes appropriate for walking because we’ll be caroling at the Living Centers and St. Luke’s Hospital that day during Sunday Morning Learning. Grown-ups are very welcome on this day, as we always need extra helpers when crossing the streets.
