This Weekend in Worship Baptism of Our Lord Sunday Scripture: Acts 19:1-7, Mark 1:4-11 Preaching: Pr. Steve Knudson Message: “What God Gives in Baptism” Synopsis: The readings for today are filled with descriptions of God at work. God breaking the barrier between heaven and earth in baptism, as the heavens are torn to make way for the Spirit. The Spirit of God coming to Jesus, and then coming to the people of Ephesus. Baptism is the means by which God makes specific and real the intentions of God to heal and restore creation. The Spirit of God makes possible the gifts of God needed to carry out God's mission. To be baptized is to be taken up into a mission and purpose of God for the healing of the world. Worship this weekend will also feature a House Blessing segment to pray for and bless your homes going into the new year.
