Video Description: So when's the last time you got a little mad and said something, um, regrettable? I know you've done it — so have I. Most of the time, you and I are pretty quick to get mad and say what's on our mind, but we're not usually very quick to listen to what other people have to say. Instead of listening to others, we're consumed with our own lives, thoughts, wants, worries, and insecurities. Instead of being careful with our words, we say things that cause hurt and pain. And instead of managing our emotions, we let our feelings of defensiveness, frustration, and anger control how we treat people. But in the Bible, a guy named James gives us some advice on how to love others more like Jesus would. It might seem simple, but if you actually do it, it will make a radical difference in your relationship with others and your relationship with God. Here it is: radical people listen more than they speak.
25 One day an expert in religious law stood up to test Jesus by asking him this question: “Teacher, what should I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?”
27 The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
28 “Right!” Jesus told him. “Do this and you will live!”
A Radical Listening Brainstorm
