Last night we had our Family Night for Confirmation Ministry and we started the process of writing a Family Faith Statement as well as our youth writing their statements for their Affirmation of Baptism in the fall of their 9th grade year. It was a fun night and we will continue the process of writing a faith statement in the coming weeks and you can follow at home as well as with this blog!
If you were unable to make the meeting last night please stop by the church sometime before Wednesday and pick up your folder with the information and packets for the Faith Statements. Your youth will need to bring with their copy of their packet each of the following weeks to ensure they are able to build on their writings from the previous weeks.
Here is some information on why Faith Statements and family faith conversations are an important part of the Confirmation Ministry here at First Lutheran Church!
There is much research done recently regarding who faith sticks with youth after high school. Many studies have come back with the much of the same information: Families Matter. More specifically family faith practices matter. Everything from worship practices, to faith conversations. We get what we are, when it comes to our youth's faith.
Parents/Guardians/Families maybe you feel a bit like this when you try to talk about faith at home:
Share a high from the past week.
Share a low from the past week.
Parents/Guardians be sure to share as well!
6th Grade- Lesson 13- Do I have to memorize the Small Catechism to be a Lutheran?
7th Grade- Lesson 13- Spiritual Practices- Marcie Watson
8th Grade- Session 12: The Church
6th Grade- What are some things you've memorized without realizing it?
7th Grade- What experience tonight was most meaningful to you and why?
8th Grade- If you were to summarize the Bible, what would you say about God?
Lord, be with us this week and help us to better understand your teachings in our lives and to see you at work in the world around us. Amen.
(Name), you are a Child of God! (As you say these words to each other, mark them with the Cross on the forehead, a reminder of your baptism)
