Sit quietly. Read John’s story about Jesus feeding 5000 hungry people—hungry for food, hungry for healing, hungry for help from Jesus.
The Christian faith talks about many kinds of hunger: spiritual, relational, and physical hunger. What kind of hunger is most pressing for you? What kind of hunger would you name in your life? If Jesus were to feed you, what kind of food would you seek?
Jesus involves a boy and the disciples to pass out the food that will satisfy the people’s hunger. What would it mean for you to pray this scripture into reality? Where are you in the story? One of those being fed or one of the disciples passing out the food of life?
Take a moment of silence in prayer and ask: Christ, which hungry people would you like me to feed? What are the physical hungers you identify? What are the spiritual hungers?

Lord Jesus, I am hungry, and you are the bread of life. Others are hungry, and you invite me to share the bread of life. Will you point out the people you are asking me to serve? Bless them and heal them in body and soul. Give me a vision of how I can serve and give bread. Amen.
