SUPPORT MINISTRIES
First Lutheran Church is a body of believers with 2,400 baptized members. With a full-time equivalent staff of just 16 people, it takes a lot of hard work from dedicated volunteers to keep this place moving. With the guidance of our Business Administrator Doug Johnson, the Trust, Stewardship and Finance Ministry Teams keep the budgets and ensure the fiscal security of the church. Our custodian, Everett Collins, keeps the Property Support Team busy with building and grounds projects. And, we cannot forget the other invaluable staff members, Wendy Kemmann, Will Mittelsteadt and Vicki Hughes, who keep this ship afloat.
The FLC Trust Committee
Kingdom-building for Future Ministry
Encouraging special gifts and bequests, providing additional adult stewardship learning workshops and administering First Lutheran's growing Trust Fund is the work of a five-member committee that's elected by the congregation. And, twice each year the Trust Committee distributes income to enable extra ministry opportunities that otherwise would not be possible.
If you would like to receive a "Special Gifts Opportunities" brochure, or consult with a member of the Trust Committee about how you can leave a legacy gift to First Lutheran, please contact Todd Anderson at 393-5383. A brief overview of our Special Gift Opportunities can be read by clicking here.
Budgeting & Finances
The Finance Ministry Team oversees the budgeting, record-keeping, and auditing functions of the congregation. On an annual basis, this group also reviews the adequacy of the church's insurance package. Supporting the work of FLC's Stewardship and Trust Committees, Finance members encourage giving through the weekly reporting of receipts against budget and life gifts of accumulated assets through estate planning. The contact for the Finance Ministry Team is Marcene Culbertson, 378-1974.
Encouraging Good Stewardship
In May, following two years of deficit giving to Mission and Ministry, the Congregation Council
authorized this group drawing members from the Council, Finance and the former Stewardship Ministry Team:
• To study the giving trends and ministry needs of our congregation.
• To encourage and celebrate discipleship giving by members of First Lutheran Church as a means of honoring God.
• To encourage good management of financial resources, both as a congregation and as individual members.
New members are always welcome on the Stewardship Team. Please contact Joe Gantner at 366-1082, or our Business Administrator Doug Johnson, at 365-1494 x.111 or dougj@firstlutherancr.org.

Office HelpersAnother great Support Ministry is done by the numerous Office Helpers we have. Members are called upon at various times to help with clerical duties in the office. Some members help on a regular basis, such as the teams that prepare The Light for mailing, and collate bulletins. Others are called upon on an occasional basis to help prepare mailings, answer phones when staff is away, or collate special publications such as this Ministry and Event Handbook and The Annual Report. If you're willing to assist our staff in the office, simply call the church office and let us know! We're always happy to have more help!

Manual Labor of the Property Ministry Team First Lutheran is fortunate to have a knowledgeable Property Ministry Team to coordinate all of the maintenance and improvement projects for the building and grounds. Volunteer work mornings are scheduled for Saturday mornings in the spring and fall, usually from 8 a.m. to noon with a contenental breakfast. This is a great way to meet other members of the church and complete projects together! We always check the Hawkeyes and Cyclones scheduels in the fall. It's also a good idea to bring your children so you can do service work as a family. You can also join the talented crew that does minor repairs, painting, and other fix-up projects the first Thursday of each month. This Property Support Team works at the church from 8:00-11:30 a.m. and takes a break for conversation, coffee, and donuts. If you are interested in being part of this work crew, please contact Larry Lundgren, 377-7342. Call to find out upcoming workdays for the Property Support Team.

Winter Weather Cancellations
It is our practice to cancel Confirmation and children’s choirs if Cedar Rapids schools are closed or dismiss early due to weather. All other groups, events or services, will meet as scheduled. Use your best judgment. If you don't feel safe going out in inclement weather, stay home. We understand, and so does God. If there are additional cancellations, we will also post them at the top of our website, or you can call the church office to be updated.
