A Note from Pastor Steve
Dear Members and Friends,
I am humbled and excited to receive the call from First Lutheran to serve the Gospel as Senior Pastor. I look forward to joining with the staff and all the members and friends of First Lutheran to many years of fruitful ministry.First Lutheran has a strong history of serving God’s mission in creative ways. I see great strengths of passion and heart among the leaders I have met. It will be a privilege to bear witness with you to the grace and mercy of God in Jesus Christ. Becky and I have been warmly received by so many people. We look forward to meeting you all and gaining new friends in Christ.

About First Lutheran's New Senior Pastor
Pastor Steve Knudson has served as an ELCA pastor for 24 years. Before coming to First Lutheran, he served 19 years as Associate and then as Senior Pastor at Vinje Lutheran in Willmar, Minnesota and before that five years as Associate Pastor at Christ Lutheran in West Covina, California. Pastor Steve grew up in Southern California and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. He then attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, graduating with both a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Theology in Reformation Studies. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Ministry in Congregation Mission and Leadership at Luther Seminary.
He comes to Cedar Rapids with his wife Becky. They have three grown children. Their oldest, Marija, is married to Michael Crosson, and they live in Washington D.C. Kristina recently graduated from the University of Minnesota and lives in Minneapolis. Their son Peter will be moving with Pr. Steve and Becky to Cedar Rapids. Pastor Steve enjoys working in the garden, reading, traveling with Becky, bike rides and golf. Pastor Steve has a deep passion for God’s mission through congregations. He believes God has gathered people into congregations to be a sign and witness to God’s saving work for all. Pastor Steve believes Lutherans have a particular and special witness to the Gospel centered in the cross of Christ.
