COMFORT MAKERS
The Comfort-Makers bring happiness to others by providing gifts of warm bedding. Their comforters are distributed to foster children, refugee families, individuals in shelters, Camp EWALU, and special projects. This group welcomes all ages and skill levels as they meet twice a month on the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday from 9:30 a.m. -- 2:30 p.m. in the LFC. You can come for part or all of the time. Comfort-Makers accepts donations of cotton material, sheet blankets, and good colored sheets measuring approximately 4 yards.
In 2006, this ministry created over 500 items to distribute.

Neighborhood Meals & Enrichment Program
The Neighborhood Meals & Enrichment Program offers free lunch to families in the community who are in need during the summer. It mainly targets children who are out of school and may not have sufficient meals at home, but all ages are welcome. Volunteers from First Lutheran help serve meals at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church location. You can help one or more days this summer. Contact Alan Fletcher at 365-9844.
Gifts of the Magi
Gifts of the Magi is an annual ministry that shares the Christmas spirit of giving with others in our community. Volunteers are needed in December to take parents shopping and bake cookies. Donations are needed to fund this project. Persons interested in helping organize the event are also being sought. In 2007, this minitry will be headed by Byron and Marcene Culbertson.

HELPING HANDS
Helping Hands Ministry, located at 1043 3rd Ave. SE (across from FLC), is a "first contact" office where people can receive limited financial assistance for such things as rent, utilities, minor car repairs, etc. and supportive services and advocacy.
First Lutheran supports Helping Hands Ministry financially, and they are always in need of volunteers to interview clients, serve as receptionists, assist with writing grants, and prepare communications to area churches, agencies, and the community.

WIDER CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY
The Wider Christian Community Ministry Team is responsible for promoting the mission of First Lutheran Church beyond our own community. We have a companion congregation in Sáme of the Paré Diocese in Tanzania, Africa. We also maintain a relationship with a partner congregation in Poland.
Over the years we have also sent several sea containers of medical, relief, and religious supplies to the Phebe Hospital in Bong County, Liberia.
FLC supports the wider mission of the church through our benevolence offerings to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the ELCA Hunger Appeal.
We welcome individuals who have an interest in Wider Christian Community issues to join the ministry team. We make the congregation aware of issues outside of our community that need to be addresses, such as world hunger problems. If you would like to learn more, please contact Ruth Ehrhardt at 363-2470.

Winter Weather Cancellations
It is our practice to cancel Confirmation and children’s choirs if Cedar Rapids schools are closed or dismiss early due to weather. All other groups, events or services, will meet as scheduled. Use your best judgment. If you don't feel safe going out in inclement weather, stay home. We understand, and so does God. If there are additional cancellations, we will also post them at the top of our website, or you can call the church office to be updated.
