Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery!

The nursery staff and volunteers of First Lutheran wish to provide quality care for your child while they are in the nursery. We will play, read, sing, and pray with your child to help them grow in their love and relationship with Jesus Christ. We will also offer them a healthy snack while they are in the nursery. We look forward to getting to know your child and seeing them grow as they get to know God!

Using the Nursery:

Signing In:

Register child on sign-in sheet
Record "Child-check" number
List where you will be
List any food allergies
List any special needs
Label diaper bags and other personal belongings with child's name.

"CHILDCHECK"

Upon arrival, your child will be assigned a "Childcheck" number and you will receive a "Childcheck" card, which will authorize your child to be released from the nursery. If it is necessary to contact you during a service, your "Childcheck" number will be displayed on the electronic pager located in the upper left corner of the sanctuary. Please remember to bring your card with you to pick up your child or give it to the adult you have designated to pick up your child. Children will not be released to an adult without the corresponding "Childcheck" number.

Health Concerns

We want all of our children to stay healthy. If your child is experiencing
any of the following symptoms, we ask that you do not bring your child to the nursery:

Fever of 99.5 or greater in the past 24 hours
Nausea/vomiting in the past 24 hours
Coughing
Discolored nasal discharge
Diarrhea
Rash

We ask for your complete cooperation in helping us to eliminate the spread of illness. We truly want each child to have a pleasant stay in our nursery.

Nursery Volunteers
We take pride in offering a safe and loving environment for our children and we rely on volunteers to effectively staff the nursery. FAQ

When is the nursery open?
The nursery is open on Sunday mornings from 7:45 - 12:15 and on Wednesday evenings beginning at 5:30.

Can I stay in the nursery with my child?
Yes! You are encouraged to play with your child and help them get acquainted with the nursery. The volunteers are also there to help get your child involved in an activity and introduced to the other children. If you have any concerns, please talk to the Nursery Attendant or a volunteer.

What age does my child have to be to use the nursery?
We accept children of all ages, however, the general age range is from newborn - 3 years-old. On Wednesday evenings, the age range varies from newborn - 10 years of age.

What snacks and drinks will be offered to my child?
While your child is in the nursery, they will be offered a snack of either graham crackers, Ritz crackers, or Cheerios. The children are given water with their snack.

Winter Weather Cancellations

It is our practice to cancel Confirmation and children’s choirs if Cedar Rapids schools are closed or dismiss early due to weather. All other groups, events or services, will meet as scheduled. Use your best judgment. If you don't feel safe going out in inclement weather, stay home. We understand, and so does God. If there are additional cancellations, we will also post them at the top of our website, or you can call the church office to be updated.
