Bridge Marathon
First Lutheran Bridge players are organizing for a marathon. The first round of play will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 19, in the Garden Room at Blair House, 2222 First Avenue NE.
The group plans to play the third Sunday of each month, excluding  December, so mark your calendars and watch for an announcement each month in The Light for host/hostess to call. Light snacks, dessert and beverages will be provided at each match. In May, the closing dinner will be at Cottage Grove Place hosted by Ortha Harstad with the exact date to be determined.
We extend a special invitation to new people at First Lutheran. New     partnerships form each year when reorganization takes place. If you want to start on September 19, call Marian & Joe DiNucci at366-4221. They will be setting up the partnerships and they will have a table for you.

Progressive Dinner
First Lutheran Church's Progressive Dinner is an annual social event held in the spring. It's a great way for couples or singles to enjoy a Saturday evening dinner while renewing old friendships and making new ones.

The evening begins with appetizers at a member's home. Then the large group splits into smaller packs of people and "progresses" to homes for the main course. After eating & conversing, everyone "progresses" to yet another home for dessert with yet another small group of people. If you've never experienced a progressive dinner, this event is a must. Everyone in the congregation is invited to participate. Host homes are always needed as well. Contact Alice Wasson at 362-3228 for details, or watch for information in the spring for exact dates.

Keenagers
First Lutheran Church Senior Adults Ministry Team invites you to the Keenagers Luncheon, held on the second Thursday each month at 12 noon in the Luther Fellowship Center. Each month we feature a different menu and bring in someone to speak or perform for the group. Each luncheon is $6, payable at the door, though we do ask that you sign up ahead of time so we know how much food to order. Menus are published in The Light each month prior to the luncheon, or may be obtained by calling the church office. Make a reservation at the narthex information desk or by calling the church office.

 Ladies' Night Out
Ladies' Night Out is a monthly fellowship night for women of all ages from First Lutheran. Each month, we pick a different restaurant in the area and gather on the last Monday of the month for food, fellowship, and fun! Past picks have included such places as Granite City restaurant, and Vito's on 42nd Street. What better way to beat the Monday blues than with good food and Christian friends! Each month, after the place is picked, we make an announcement in The Light and/or weekend worship bulletins & slides. For more information on these fun nights, contact Kallie Meyer at 366-3296.

Women's Dinner & Theater
Similar to the Ladies' Night Out program, Women's Dinner & Theater (W.D.T.) is a monthly escape for women of the congregation. W.D.T. meets the third Friday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the west-side Panera Bread, located just off Edgewood Road across from Westdale Mall. It's a favorite meeting place for First Lutheran small groups. After dinner, we all migrate to Carmike Cinema, just across the parking lot, to see a movie. If you're a movie buff who enjoys fellowship come on out! (So long as your female, that is.)

Men's Breakfast
Bagels, Belly-laughs, and Bible Study! That's a fairly accurate summary of the Thursday morning men's breakfast group.  We gather each Thursday morning at 6:45 a.m. in the Luther Fellowship Center for an hour. The time begins with bagels, donuts, Swedish Pancakes, or an occasional breakfast casserole. There are usually a few good laughs shared in warm conversation, and then we close the time with a lively half-hour Bible study. Men, start your day off right! Come next Thursday morning and join this great group.

 Winter Weather Cancellations

It is our practice to cancel Confirmation and children’s choirs if Cedar Rapids schools are closed or dismiss early due to weather. All other groups, events or services, will meet as scheduled. Use your best judgment. If you don't feel safe going out in inclement weather, stay home. We understand, and so does God. If there are additional cancellations, we will also post them at the top of our website, or you can call the church office to be updated.
