Q. Why do we come to church?
We come to the church building on Sunday mornings to worship together the God who we believe has created us and all that exists and who has saved us through His Son, Jesus Christ. We come to give praise and thanks to God, to be strengthened in our faith through the hearing of the Word (in scripture, preached, and sung), to confess our sins and hear a word of forgiveness, to support one another, and to be fed with the body and blood of Jesus to forgive our sins and strengthen us for the faithful work we do all week.
We should come because we want to, not because we have to. We should come because it is a place we feel safe, cared for, understood, and loved. We should come because we are better people and better followers of Christ when we do.
As Lutherans, we believe that the church consists of the people who belong to it…not the building. So we come to church to meet our friends, neighbors, and fellow believers. We come, so that as we learn and grow together we might better be the hands and feet of Christ.
Why do you come to church? Is it for these reasons, or others? Think about it and then talk to me, I’d love to hear the answer.
