The Comfort Makers group tie quilts, mend bedding, make children’s blankets and provide other garments for those in need of warmth, either physically or emotionally. Quilts go to local organizations and as far away as Africa. All ages and skill levels are welcome in this group. We meet the second Tuesday and fourth Thursday of each month in the lower level of the church. We start to gather around 9:30 a.m., break for devotions & fellowship at lunchtime, and wrap-up for the day at about 2:30 p.m.
The Parish Nurse Team is comprised of nurses (RN's and LPN's) from within the First Lutheran Congregation, who serve the congregation by integrating faith and health through the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The Parish Nurse is a referral source for needed medical treatment and intervention, focusing on supportive, educational services and preventative measures. For more, contact Pastor Kay Slocum at 365-1494.

The Solace Servers is a group of dedicated volunteers whose purpose is to provide comfort and support following a funeral service by serving lunch to a grieving family and their friends. Each time the Solace Servers is needed, members are contacted from a list of willing participants on a rotating basis. If you are unable to serve at the luncheons, another way you can participate by donating a salad or cake. If this caring ministry appeals to your heart, please contact either or the co-coordinators: Joan Rust or Sue Olmstead.
Deacons are trained and commissioned to serve the sacrament of Holy Communion to First Lutheran members who are not able to come to worship with our congregational family, to carry the love and forgiveness of Jesus to them, pray with them, and be the connection that binds our hearts in Christian love. The Deacon Ministry Team currently meets on the second Friday of each month at 11:30 AM at the Westside Panera Bread for fellowship and renewal, Bible Study, small groups and prayer. We are currently seeking more Deacons for visiting our congregational members and friends. If you think that this may be a ministry for you please talk to Pastor Kay for more details.

“I can’t begin to express the comfort I felt having the prayer shawl in the hospital.” “This beautiful and comforting prayer shawl always makes me remember that I am not alone.” “It keeps my heart warm as well as my body.”
“When troubles come, I have my shawl and my bible.” “It is one of my most cherished possessions.” These are just a few of the responses we have heard from those who received a prayer shawl through First Lutheran’s Prayer Shawl Ministry. More than 160 prayer shawls have been knitted, prayed over, and given to people in need of comfort or ncouragement! If you knit or crochet and would like to contribute the work of your hands to those who are suffering, you will want to become a part of this vibrant ministry!
