During the season of Lent in the spring of 2004, First Lutheran studied the biblically-based principles of The 40 Days of Purpose, A program originated by Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback Church, and since disseminated around the world.
You are not an accident! You were created by God for five purposes, and until you understand those purposes, life will not make sense.
First Lutheran Church embarked on a spiritual growth journey called, 40 Days of Purpose. During this spiritual growth journey we sought to answer the ultimate question in life: 'What on Earth am I Here For?'
This six-week Lenten journey gave everyone who participated the opportunity to commit to habits of spiritual growth, memorize scripture, experience the fellowship of a small group setting, share their faith, and gain a deeper understanding of God's purpose for their lives.
Small Groups
One of the most exciting aspects of this journey was the opportunity to gather in small groups. These groups met weekly to either discuss questions in the back of the book or to watch a video teaching session that explores that week's theme in a deeper way. We had over 900 participants in these groups, many of which held together after the study was completed.
Small groups also offer time to discuss together the truths of scripture and how to apply them to your life. You can sign up for small groups at any time by contacting Janiese Karpa, our Director of Small Group & Discipleship Ministries, in the church office.
Daily Readings
The 40 daily readings featured in the book, The Purpose Driven Life, helped guide us in our personal journeys of discovery of God's purposes for our lives, and can do the same for you.
A special sermon series was presented during Lent which coordinated with the seven messages in the series, The Purpose Driven Life. Click on "Sermons" header to read them online!
